Iran’s Guards warn they will pursue Israeli PM amid viral assassination rumours
March 15, 2026: Amid viral rumours claiming the assassination of Benjamin Netanyahu, Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a sharp warning on Sunday, saying it would continue to pursue and kill the Israeli leader if he was still alive. The statement surfaced hours after Israeli authorities dismissed the claims circulating on social media as false and confirmed that the prime minister was safe.
The IRGC, in remarks carried by Iranian state media, referred to the “unknown fate” of Netanyahu and claimed that speculation surrounding him reflected instability within Israel. The statement added that if the Israeli leader was alive, Iranian forces would continue efforts to target him. The warning further heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, whose relations have already been strained by ongoing regional conflict.
Confusion over the rumours grew after a video posted on Netanyahu’s official account appeared to show him with six fingers, prompting online speculation that the clip might have been generated using artificial intelligence. However, the AI chatbot Grok said the footage was authentic and suggested the unusual appearance was likely a visual illusion. A spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office later dismissed the assassination claims as “fake news,” reiterating that Netanyahu was safe.
