Is The Royal Household Working on King Charles’ Succession Plan Amid his Difficult Battle With Cancer
June 17, 2025 – Concerns over King Charles III’s health have resurfaced following reports that Buckingham Palace is quietly preparing for the monarch’s potential passing. As speculation about the severity of his undisclosed cancer intensifies, royal insiders say plans for a seamless transition of power to Prince William are already in place under a classified protocol known as “Operation Menai Bridge.”

According to a senior palace aide quoted by Radar Online, the plan—named after the historic iron bridge connecting Anglesey to mainland Wales—outlines the detailed sequence of events following the monarch’s death. It includes everything from official communications to flag procedures and security logistics.

“These are rehearsals no one wants to do, but everyone has to be ready,” the source said. “Every detail is planned—from who calls whom to how flags are lowered.”
Royal Protection Officer Simon Morgan echoed this sentiment, noting that Charles, given his age and health, has likely accepted the brevity of his reign.
“Even the king said in his acceptance speech that he would serve for as long as life allows him to,” Morgan added.
Although Buckingham Palace remains tight-lipped about Charles’ exact diagnosis, anonymous insiders claim the 75-year-old monarch is battling pancreatic cancer and has allegedly been given two years to live. More controversially, some reports claim that the king is refusing chemotherapy, allegedly relying instead on alcohol and marijuana to manage pain—though these claims remain unverified.

Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in early 2024 but has since limited public appearances and official duties, fueling rumors about his prognosis.
The royal family has a long-standing tradition of assigning codenames to operational plans for royal deaths. The Queen Mother’s passing in 2002 was known as Operation Tay Bridge, while Prince Philip’s death in 2021 was referred to as Operation Forth Bridge. Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in 2022 activated Operation London Bridge.
Operation Menai Bridge would mark the next chapter in that protocol lineage, with Prince William expected to assume the crown immediately should the need arise.
As the heir to the throne, Prince William is already being briefed and prepped for a sudden transition, should Charles’ condition deteriorate quickly. While there is no official word of an imminent shift in power, the royal machinery appears to be in full readiness.
In a monarchy where public image and preparedness are everything, these “death rehearsals” are not just contingency—they’re protocol.
For now, King Charles remains Britain’s reigning monarch. But behind the palace gates, the future of the crown may already be taking shape.
