As Iran launches fresh drone and missile attacks on Israel, Tel Aviv retaliates by targeting key Iranian fuel infrastructure; U.S. halts nuclear deal talks with Tehran amidst rising regional tensions

Tehran/Jerusalem, June 15, 2025:
The escalating military confrontation between Iran and Israel entered its second consecutive night of hostilities, with Iran launching a fresh wave of drone and missile attacks late Saturday, prompting swift retaliation from Israel targeting strategic Iranian fuel depots.

Iran’s offensive, dubbed Operation “Honest Promise 3”, saw a barrage of missiles and drones directed at Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv. The strikes caused damage to residential buildings, with at least 14 civilians reported injured, according to Israel’s rescue and fire services.

In a swift and targeted response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched drone strikes that reportedly triggered massive explosions at a natural gas processing plant in Shaharan and another fuel depot inside Iran. The IDF stated these attacks were focused on “military targets” in Tehran and aimed at neutralizing Iran’s ability to sustain long-term aggression.

Explosions were heard across both eastern and western Tehran, according to Iranian state media. While Iran claimed it struck key Israeli military targets, Israel has not confirmed any damage beyond civilian injuries.

The military escalation follows Israel’s prior airstrikes on Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure, which had already heightened tensions across the region. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a stern warning, stated that the latest Israeli strikes are “nothing compared to what they [Iran] will feel under the sway of our forces in the coming days.”

In the initial Iranian strike on Friday night, three Israeli citizens were killed and over 170 injured, marking one of the deadliest single-night escalations in recent memory.

In response to the violence, the United States has announced it will pause ongoing nuclear deal negotiations with Iran, signaling a shift in diplomatic engagement amid the outbreak of direct conflict.

The back-and-forth attacks have prompted fears of a broader regional war, with analysts warning that the Middle East could be pulled further into instability if hostilities continue unchecked.

As air raid sirens fell silent after the attacks, Israeli authorities eased public safety measures, permitting residents to exit shelters. However, military readiness remains high across both nations.
