Hezbollah targets hit as Iran confirms top deaths; tensions spiral

March 18, 2026: Amid the escalating conflict, Israel has intensified its strikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, with fresh missile attacks reported in Beirut. In one of the most significant strikes, the Israel Defense Forces targeted a residential apartment allegedly linked to Hezbollah leaders, leaving the structure in ruins.

The situation worsened after Iran confirmed the deaths of senior figures, including Gholam Reza Soleimani and Ali Larijani. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a strong warning to both the United States and Israel, vowing retaliation and asserting that the killings would only strengthen their resolve.

The Basij, a key unit formed under Ali Khamenei in 1979, plays a major role in Iran’s internal security and operates under the IRGC, with a large volunteer base.

Reacting to the developments, Benjamin Netanyahu described the killings as a major strategic blow to Iran. With strikes intensifying and threats of retaliation mounting, fears are growing of a wider and prolonged regional conflict.
