“It is Due to Our Own Mistake” – Dilip Tirkey on India’s Loss Against Germany

Following India’s narrow 2-3 loss to Germany in the men’s hockey semi-final at the Paris Olympics, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey commented on the missed opportunities that cost India the match.

Harmanpreet Singh (7′) and Sukhjeet Singh (36′) scored for India, while Germany’s Gonzalo Peillat (18′), Christopher Ruehr (27′), and Marco Miltkau (54′) secured the victory for their team in a tense, hard-fought game.

In an interview, Tirkey expressed his disappointment, saying, “I wouldn’t say it was a close match because we got a lot of chances to score a goal… It is due to our own mistake that we could not reach the finals. It is our bad luck… I have faith that the players will make a comeback after this match.”

India started the game strongly, employing a relentless attacking approach that resulted in multiple penalty corners. Despite the aggressive start and several scoring opportunities, the team could not convert these chances into goals, ultimately leading to their defeat.
