Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, has declared that the primary goal for her team is to win the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
In a recent statement, she emphasized the team’s dedication, saying, “It’s something we have been striving for as a team, and lifting the trophy remains our primary goal.”
Kaur highlighted the ambition and drive within the squad, asserting that they would leave no stone unturned in their quest to play a fearless brand of cricket. “Our expectation is straightforward: to bring glory to the country and our supporters, who back us unconditionally no matter where we play,” she noted in an ICC media release.
As they prepare for the tournament, Kaur expressed that every match leading up to the World Cup is an opportunity for the team to showcase their skills and inspire young cricketers worldwide. “It is our team’s dream to win this coveted trophy, and I believe we have what it takes to do so,” she said, reflecting on their previous close calls in the tournament, including reaching the final in 2020 and nearly making it again in 2023.
Expressing excitement about playing in the UAE for the first time, Kaur is optimistic about the support from local crowds, anticipating large turnouts in Dubai and Sharjah. She pointed out that the squad consists of a solid mix of experienced players and younger talent, with many having significant experience despite their age. “The new faces in the squad bring enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, which adds a dynamic energy to the team,” she added.
Kaur praised the camaraderie within the group, emphasizing the respect among players and the supportive environment fostered by the coaching staff. “Our preparations for this tournament began immediately after the last edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup concluded,” she said, highlighting their clear vision for success.
While skills are crucial, Kaur also stressed the importance of fitness, noting that all players have embraced their training regimen, recognizing its impact on performance. Although strategies may vary based on the opponent, the team’s focus remains on leveraging their strengths and maximizing their potential as they head into the World Cup.
