US President Reveals Ukraine’s Readiness for Negotiations, Says Moscow Also Open to Peace

Washington, DC [US], March 5: US President Donald Trump announced that he has received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in which Ukraine expressed its willingness to negotiate a peace deal and sign an agreement on minerals and security. Trump also claimed that Russia has signaled readiness for peace, calling the ongoing war “senseless” and urging for an end to the conflict.

Trump Reveals Zelenskyy’s Letter in Congress Address

Addressing a joint session of Congress on Tuesday (local time), Trump shared the details of Zelenskyy’s letter, which emphasized Ukraine’s eagerness to reach a diplomatic solution.

“Earlier today, I received an important letter from President Zelenskyy of Ukraine. The letter reads: ‘Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians.'”

Zelenskyy also acknowledged America’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and stated that Kyiv is prepared to sign an agreement on minerals and security at a time of Trump’s choosing.

“My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts. We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time that is convenient for you.”

Trump said he appreciated Zelenskyy’s outreach and reiterated that his administration has been in serious discussions with Russia, which has also signaled interest in a resolution.

“I appreciate that he sent this letter, just got it a little while ago. Simultaneously, we’ve had serious discussions with Russia and have received strong signals that they are ready for peace. Wouldn’t that be beautiful? It’s time to stop this madness. It’s time to halt the killing. It’s time to end this senseless war.”

“If you want to end wars, you have to talk to both sides.”

Zelenskyy’s Letter Comes After Tense White House Exchange

This development follows a heated verbal exchange between Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Zelenskyy at the White House last week. The tense meeting, which was reportedly witnessed by White House officials and the media, reflected deep disagreements over US support for Ukraine and potential peace terms.

Trump: “2000 Lives Lost Weekly, No End in Sight”

Trump highlighted the human toll of the war, stating that 2000 people are dying each week, including both Ukrainians and Russians. He criticized the Biden administration’s financial support for Ukraine, claiming that the US has spent more money on Ukraine’s defense than Europe has contributed.

“Millions of Ukrainians and Russians have been needlessly killed or wounded in this horrific and brutal conflict, with no end in sight. The United States has sent hundreds of billions of dollars to support Ukraine’s defense, with no security, with no way.”

“Do you want to keep it going for another five years? 2000 people are being killed every single week, more than that. They are Russian young people. They’re Ukrainian young people. They’re not Americans. But I want it to stop.”

“Meanwhile, Europe has sadly spent more money buying Russian oil and gas than they have spent on defending Ukraine by far.”

Trump criticized Europe’s role, arguing that while the US has contributed roughly $350 billion to Ukraine’s defense, Europe has spent more on purchasing Russian oil and gas than helping Ukraine.

“They’ve spent more buying Russian oil and gas than they have defending Ukraine. And we’ve spent perhaps USD 350 billion, while they’ve spent USD 100 billion. What a difference that is.”

“We have an ocean separating us, and they don’t. But we’re getting along very well with them. And lots of good things are happening.”

Trump also criticized Biden’s approach to military aid, saying that Washington has committed more funds to Ukraine than necessary, while Europe has not contributed equally.

Trump on the Middle East: “Bringing Back Hostages from Gaza”

Shifting focus to the Middle East, Trump spoke about ongoing efforts to bring back hostages from Gaza and referenced the Abraham Accords, the historic peace deal brokered during his first administration.

“In the Middle East, we’re bringing back our hostages from Gaza. In my first term, we achieved one of the most groundbreaking peace agreements in generations: the Abraham Accords.”

“Now we’re going to build on that foundation, to create a more peaceful and prosperous future for the entire region.”

Trump hinted that major diplomatic efforts are underway in the Middle East, although he did not elaborate on specific initiatives.

“A lot of things are happening in the Middle East. People haven’t been talking about that so much lately, with everything going on with Ukraine and Russia, but a lot of things are happening. A rough neighborhood, actually.”

What’s Next? Uncertainty Over Peace Talks

With Zelenskyy’s willingness to negotiate now public and Trump claiming that Russia is also signaling interest in peace, the next steps remain unclear. However, with Trump pushing for a resolution, diplomatic efforts could gain momentum in the coming weeks.

Will Ukraine and Russia actually reach the negotiating table? Will the US push for a new peace deal? Only time will tell.
