Jailed Imran Khan Issues Statement Over Pahalgam Attack, Denies Involvement
April 30, 2025: From behind bars, former PM Imran Khan denounces India’s accusations over the Pahalgam attack, calls for restraint, and warns against escalation in the nuclear region.
Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has issued a fiery statement in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. Calling the incident “deeply disturbing and tragic,” Khan extended condolences to the victims but strongly rejected India’s claims of Pakistan’s involvement, likening the current situation to what he called a “false flag” event similar to Pulwama in 2019.

In a post on X, Khan said, “Peace is our priority, but it should not be mistaken for cowardice. Pakistan has all the capabilities to give a befitting response to any Indian misadventure.”
Khan, who has been in jail since 2023 on multiple charges, accused the Modi government of using the incident to deflect from internal failures. He warned that any action taken by India would risk igniting a conflict in a region he called a “nuclear flashpoint.”

He also lashed out at India’s ruling ideology and its abrogation of Article 370, claiming it had “further fuelled” the Kashmiri desire for independence. Khan’s message was sharply critical of Pakistan’s current leadership as well, accusing Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari of remaining silent due to “foreign business interests” and fear of repercussions on their overseas assets.

Khan’s comments come amid reports from the Pakistan government alleging that India may launch a military strike within 24 to 36 hours — a claim dismissed by Indian officials but seen as a sign of rapidly deteriorating relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
