New Delhi [India]: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday took oath as a member of Rajya Sabha after being re-elected to the upper house of Parliament as a BJP member from Gujarat.
Jaishankar was elected to the Rajya Sabha in the biennial elections held in July. This will be his second term in Rajya Sabha.
“Deeply honoured to take my oath today as the member of the Rajya Sabha, the Council of States of India,” Jaishankar said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The career diplomat-turned-politician thanked the people of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP for the opportunity “to continue serving the people of the nation”.
Jaishankar was inducted into the Union Cabinet in 2019 and was elected to the Upper House of Parliament.
