Top-ranked Sinner outclasses 24-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic in straight sets to book his maiden French Open final against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
Jannik Sinner continued his dream run at Roland-Garros 2025 by defeating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3) in a clinical semifinal display on Friday. The Italian top seed, who hasn’t dropped a set all tournament, now faces defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in what promises to be a blockbuster final.
With ice-cold precision, Sinner dismantled Djokovic’s defense, relentlessly pushing him behind the baseline and pounding winners with unshakable intensity. The 22-year-old now becomes only the second Italian man in the Open era to reach the French Open final, following Adriano Panatta’s title win in 1976.
“These are rare and special moments,” Sinner said post-match. “To beat Novak on this stage means a lot. I tried to stay focused on every point. If you blink, the match slips away.”
Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slams and was aiming for a record-extending 38th major final appearance, looked out of rhythm for much of the match and received treatment on his thigh during the second and third sets. After the match, he appeared emotional, kissing the clay and prompting speculation this may have been his final appearance at Roland-Garros.
Sinner will now take on Carlos Alcaraz, who advanced after his opponent Lorenzo Musetti retired in the semifinals due to a leg injury. Alcaraz was leading 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 when Musetti withdrew. Despite the unfortunate end, Alcaraz displayed dominant form, winning 24 of 29 points in the third set.
“I wish Lorenzo a speedy recovery,” Alcaraz said. “But I feel strong and confident heading into the final.”
The French Open 2025 final now sets up an electrifying clash between the world’s top two players. While Sinner enters the match with a 20-match Grand Slam winning streak, Alcaraz holds a 7-4 career edge over the Italian, including wins in their last four encounters.
As tennis prepares for a new era, all eyes will be on Sunday’s final—a battle between two young titans who are redefining the future of the sport.
