JSFM Condemns Killing of Activist Zahid Laghari in Moro, Calls for International Intervention and Justice

May 22, 2025: The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) has strongly denounced what it describes as a brutal and unprovoked assault by Pakistani state intelligence agencies and police on peaceful Sindhi nationalist activists in Moro. The attack resulted in the tragic death of activist Zahid Laghari and left several others, including Irfan Laghari, critically injured.

In a public statement, JSFM Chairman Sohail Abro, joined by senior leaders Zubair Sindhi, Amar Azadi, Farhan Sindhi, Hafeez Deshi, Mark Sindhu, and Hosho Sindhi, condemned the violence in the strongest terms and announced 10 days of mourning across Sindh to honor Zahid Laghari’s memory.

Chairman Abro demanded the immediate registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the officers from Pakistani intelligence and police responsible for the targeted killing. “These individuals must be held accountable under international human rights law,” he said.

According to JSFM, this incident is part of a broader, coordinated campaign by Pakistan’s military establishment—including the ISI, MI, Rangers, and local police—to suppress the growing peaceful nationalist movement in Sindh. Activists have faced increasing brutality for opposing corporate land grabs and the illegal construction of irrigation canals on the Indus River.

“This killing is not an isolated act—it is part of a systematic policy of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial executions, fabricated legal charges, and the silencing of legitimate political voices,” said JSFM leadership. “Pakistan’s establishment is intentionally pushing peaceful Sindhi activism toward conflict to justify a sweeping crackdown on our national movement.”

Despite these challenges, JSFM vowed to continue its nonviolent struggle for Sindh’s rightful control over its natural resources, self-determination, and the freedom of unlawfully detained and disappeared activists. “Our movement will not be silenced,” said Chairman Abro. “We will persist in our demand for justice, dignity, and freedom for the Sindhi nation.”

JSFM called on the United Nations, its Special Rapporteurs on Human Rights and Enforced Disappearances, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and other global human rights defenders to urgently recognize the escalating crackdown in Sindh. The movement urged the international community to hold Pakistani authorities accountable, stop the repression, and support the Sindhi people’s right to peaceful political expression and autonomy.
