Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ Scores Big on Day 1 with Rs 22 Crore, But Faces Mixed Reviews

November 15, 2024: Suriya’s much-awaited film Kanguva made an impressive start at the box office, raking in Rs 22 crore globally on its opening day. In Tamil Nadu alone, the film earned Rs 13.65 crore, showcasing the strong fan following of the Tamil superstar. However, it saw moderate numbers in other regions, collecting only Rs 3.25 crore in Hindi-speaking markets and smaller amounts in Karnataka and Kerala.

While initial fan shows praised Suriya’s dual role and the film’s action sequences, critical reviews soon began highlighting the movie’s shortcomings in plot and characterisation. Suriya’s portrayal of both Kanguva and Francis drew admiration, with fans and critics appreciating the nuances he brought to each character.

As Kanguva enters its first weekend, only time will tell if it can maintain this momentum despite mixed feedback.
