Karachi Residents Struggle Amid Soaring Inflation and Skyrocketing Prices
Islamabad [Pakistan], December 16: Spiraling inflation in Pakistan has severely impacted residents of Karachi, where the cost of essential goods has surged to unprecedented levels, leaving many struggling to afford even basic necessities. Prices of staple items such as tomatoes, onions, and petrol have seen dramatic hikes in recent months, exacerbating the financial strain on households.
Locals have voiced their frustration over the government’s inability to control inflation, noting how everyday expenses have become a burden. A resident lamented that a simple breakfast for a family now costs nearly 500 Pakistani rupees, a figure that is untenable for low-income families.
“It’s incredibly hard to buy anything now. Tomatoes and onions are priced so high they’ve become unaffordable. Inflation keeps rising uncontrollably, and every petrol hike affects food and household costs,” said one resident.
Another resident, M Yaseen, criticized the government for failing to regulate market prices. “There’s no proper oversight or control. Sellers are charging inflated prices, and no one enforces any limits. Previously, there were price lists for every commodity, but now there’s nothing in place,” he said.
Anger is mounting among Karachi’s residents, many of whom accuse the government of prioritizing business interests over public welfare. “The government seems more focused on businesses rather than the needs of the people. While we struggle to afford food and basic services, they have failed to provide any meaningful relief,” a local complained.
The economic crisis has intensified calls for government intervention to stabilize prices and ease the financial burden on ordinary citizens. As inflation continues unchecked, Karachi’s residents, along with millions across Pakistan, are left grappling with dwindling hope and growing desperation for change.
