Kevin De Bruyne To Leave Manchester City After A Decade Of Glory

April 4, 2025: Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgian midfielder and six-time Premier League winner, has announced that he will be leaving Manchester City at the end of the current season, marking the end of a remarkable 10-year tenure at the club. De Bruyne, who joined Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for a fee of £54.5 million, has played a key role in the club’s success over the years, winning numerous trophies, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FA Cup.

In his decade with Manchester City, De Bruyne has been instrumental in the club’s success, helping them secure multiple Premier League titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24), FA Cups (2018/19, 2022/23), and Carabao Cups (2015/16, 2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21), as well as the prestigious FA Community Shield in 2019 and 2024. His performances on the field, alongside his leadership, have been pivotal to Manchester City’s dominance in English football during this era.

Currently leading Manchester City in the 2024-25 Premier League season, De Bruyne has played a significant role in keeping the team competitive, with the club sitting in fifth place on the points table with 15 wins and six draws after 30 matches.

De Bruyne took to his official social media platform, X, to share the news with his fans. In a heartfelt farewell message, he stated, “Dear Manchester, Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading. So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player.” He continued, expressing gratitude to the city, the club, and the fans for the unforgettable journey he’s had with the club. “Football led me to all of you and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back!”

De Bruyne also acknowledged the importance of the club and city to his family, adding, “Suri, Rome, Mason, Michle, and I are beyond grateful for what this place has meant to our family. ‘Manchester’ will forever be on our kids’ passports and, more importantly, in each of our hearts. This will always be our home.”

Having made 413 appearances for Manchester City, De Bruyne has scored 106 goals and registered 174 assists. His contribution to the club’s success, particularly in their recent treble-winning 2022/23 season, has cemented his status as one of the club’s greatest-ever players.

As De Bruyne prepares for his departure, he reflects on the incredible journey he’s had with Manchester City. With his farewell, he hopes to enjoy his final months at the club and continue contributing to their ongoing campaign, which is still alive in multiple competitions. His legacy at Manchester City will undoubtedly remain intact, as he leaves behind a lasting impact on the club’s history.
