Khamenei Rejects Trump’s Surrender Demand, Warns of “Irreparable Damage” if U.S. Intervenes in Israel-Iran War
Washington, DC, June 19 — Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has publicly and unequivocally rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for an “unconditional surrender,” warning of “irreparable damage” if the United States intervenes militarily in the intensifying war between Iran and Israel, according to a report by The New York Times.
“Intelligent people who know Iran, the nation and the history of Iran, will never speak to this nation in the language of threats, because the Iranian nation cannot be surrendered,” Khamenei said during a televised national address.
“The Americans should know that any U.S. military intervention will undoubtedly be accompanied by irreparable damage.”
Khamenei’s defiant comments came shortly after President Trump floated the idea of assassinating Iran’s top leader, though he added he would not pursue that course of action “at least for now.”
“Nobody knows what I’m going to do,” Trump stated, adding that the U.S. could still consider military participation in Israel’s offensive operations.
This follows Trump’s earlier social media post declaring “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”, escalating fears of direct U.S. military involvement.
Despite rising hostilities, signals from both Washington and Tehran on the possibility of negotiations remain contradictory. Trump claimed that Iran had reached out for talks, saying that “nothing’s too late” for a nuclear deal.
However, Iran’s permanent mission to the UN dismissed the idea outright:
“No Iranian official has ever asked to grovel at the gates of the White House… Iran does NOT negotiate under duress, shall NOT accept peace under duress, and certainly NOT with a has-been warmonger clinging to relevance.”
Still, a senior Iranian foreign ministry official anonymously told The New York Times that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi may be open to U.S.-brokered ceasefire talks with Israel.
Adding intrigue to the developments, three Iranian aircraft—both government and commercial—were tracked landing in Oman, a known mediator between Tehran and Washington. The identities of the passengers remain undisclosed.
The military front has rapidly escalated. As per The New York Times, Israeli airstrikes have targeted and eliminated senior Iranian military officers and nuclear scientists, hitting over 50 targets in Tehran alone. These included centrifuge facilities and uranium enrichment component workshops.
In response, Iran fired a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones toward Israel. While most were intercepted, the tit-for-tat strikes have left both nations’ populations fearing further escalation.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking amid the volatile situation, praised the resilience of the Israeli public and expressed gratitude to President Trump for continued support.
“We talk continuously, including last night. We had a very warm conversation,” Netanyahu stated.
Despite the dangers, Israeli public opinion largely supports the government’s military campaign, viewing it as essential to neutralizing Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
As the conflict intensifies, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem has begun assisting with the evacuation of American citizens from Israel.
This move underlines the seriousness with which Washington views the potential for wider regional instability—a conflict that may now hinge on whether or not the U.S. joins Israel in military action or opts for a diplomatic de-escalation.
