KL Rahul Joins Elite List with Seventh 500-Run IPL Season

Delhi Capitals star equals David Warner with seven 500+ run seasons in IPL history during high-stakes clash vs Mumbai Indians

Mumbai, May 22:
KL Rahul added another milestone to his illustrious Indian Premier League career, registering his seventh 500-plus run season, during Delhi Capitals’ high-pressure clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. With this achievement, the 33-year-old equalled David Warner for the joint-second most 500-run seasons in IPL history. Only Virat Kohli stands ahead with eight such seasons, while Shikhar Dhawan follows with five.

🔹 Rahul’s Milestone Amidst DC’s Struggles

Rahul crossed the 500-run mark in the IPL 2025 season during Delhi’s failed chase of a 181-run target, although his personal outing with the bat was underwhelming. He scored 11 runs off six deliveries before falling victim to Trent Boult, who induced an edge caught sharply by Ryan Rickelton behind the stumps. The dismissal left Rahul shaking his head in frustration, while Boult celebrated his eighth powerplay wicket of the season.

Despite the short stay at the crease, Rahul’s season tally now reads 504 runs in 12 innings at an average of 56.00 and a strike rate of 148.67, including a century and multiple impactful fifties.

🔹 MI Dominate, DC Falter

The match proved to be a do-or-die contest for Delhi Capitals, whose playoff hopes were riding on a victory. However, the team faltered under pressure, bowled out for 121, handing Mumbai Indians a commanding 59-run win and the final spot in the playoffs.

Mitchell Santner (3/11) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/12) dismantled the DC batting line-up, making light work of a middling chase. Despite a brief resistance from Sameer Rizvi (39) and Vipraj Nigam (20), Delhi never truly recovered from their early setbacks, ultimately crashing out of the playoff race.

🔹 Rahul’s Consistency Across Seasons

Rahul’s consistency remains one of IPL’s most reliable assets. His seven 500+ run seasons have come across multiple franchises, showcasing his adaptability and class as a top-order batter. He now sits level with David Warner, one of the league’s greatest overseas performers, and just one short of Kohli’s all-time record.

🏏 Season Snapshot – KL Rahul in IPL 2025

  • Matches: 12
  • Runs: 504
  • Average: 56.00
  • Strike Rate: 148.67
  • 50s/100s: 3/1
  • Best Score: 112*

With just one match remaining in DC’s campaign, Rahul may not see the playoffs this year, but his individual brilliance continues to shine through. As Delhi prepare for their final fixture, Rahul’s form remains one of the few bright spots in an otherwise inconsistent season.
