Kohli-Patidar Show Shreds MI Attack as RCB Post Massive 221 at Wankhede
Mumbai, April 7, 2025 — Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a batting masterclass against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, posting a towering total of 221/5 in their IPL 2025 clash. Leading the charge were Virat Kohli and captain Rajat Patidar, both of whom cracked explosive half-centuries to dismantle the MI bowling lineup.
Kohli, in vintage form, smashed a 29-ball fifty, which included a stunning six off Jasprit Bumrah’s very first delivery. His aggressive intent set the tone early as RCB reached 73/1 in the powerplay, their highest-ever against MI.
Patidar then took over the mantle, crafting a fiery 25-ball 50 punctuated with clean hits and clever placement. Together, Kohli and Patidar built a crucial partnership before Hardik Pandya intervened. The MI skipper picked up two wickets in three balls, dismissing both Kohli and Liam Livingstone to spark hope for the hosts.
Despite Pandya’s efforts (finishing with 2/45), RCB’s momentum didn’t slow down. Jitesh Sharma provided the finishing flourish with two sixes off Trent Boult in the 19th over, ensuring the scoreboard kept ticking.
Bumrah, returning from a three-month injury layoff, bowled a disciplined spell of 0/27 in 4 overs, though his effort couldn’t stem the RCB flow.
Mumbai Indians will now need a record chase to win this match and keep their campaign alive, having lost three of their first four matches this season.
