The new Freeride E from KTM brings improved performance, extended range, and enhanced usability, marking a major step forward in the brand’s electric off-road motorcycle lineup.
A New Chapter For KTM’s Electric Off-Road Lineup
KTM has officially revealed the KTM Freeride E 2027, giving its electric off-road motorcycle a comprehensive upgrade across performance, battery technology, and rider convenience.
The Freeride badge has been part of KTM’s global portfolio for over a decade, and this latest iteration reflects the company’s growing expertise in electric mobility, particularly in the off-road segment.
More Power And Improved Riding Dynamics
The 2027 Freeride E comes equipped with a newly developed waterproof and dustproof electric motor, producing 19.2kW (25.5 bhp) and 37Nm of torque.
KTM claims a top speed of 95 km/h, making it suitable for trail riding and enduro conditions. Riders can choose from three ride modes — Eco, Normal, and Sport — allowing them to tailor performance based on terrain and riding style.
Additionally, the motorcycle features three levels of regenerative braking, helping improve efficiency and control during off-road rides.
Swappable Battery With Practical Range
One of the biggest upgrades is the introduction of a 5.5kWh swappable lithium-ion battery pack.
According to KTM, the battery can deliver 2 to 3 hours of off-road riding, depending on terrain and throttle usage. It is also designed for durability, offering over 1,000 charging cycles before dropping to 80% efficiency.
This makes the Freeride E more practical for long-term ownership, especially for enthusiasts who frequently ride in challenging conditions.
Faster Charging Reduces Downtime
Charging convenience has also been significantly improved.
- The standard 660W charger takes around 8 hours for a full charge
- An optional 3.3kW fast charger reduces charging time to just 1.5 hours
KTM also claims that the 29kg battery pack can be removed in under 10 minutes, adding to the bike’s usability, especially for riders who prefer swapping batteries instead of waiting for a recharge.
Lightweight Design For Better Off-Road Control
Weighing just 112kg, the Freeride E is designed to be nimble and easy to handle on technical trails.
It is built on a chrome-moly steel frame, paired with an aluminium and reinforced nylon subframe. The bike also features:
- WP adjustable suspension
- 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels
- Michelin Enduro Medium tyres
These components are aimed at delivering better stability, grip, and control across rough terrains.
India Launch Still Uncertain
While KTM has confirmed that the 2027 Freeride E will be available globally starting later this month, its launch in India remains unlikely for now.
Despite KTM’s strong presence in the Indian market, the brand has not yet introduced its electric motorcycle lineup in the country. However, with its EV ambitions growing — especially with support from Bajaj Auto — the Freeride E could eventually find a place in India’s niche electric off-road segment.
What This Means For The Future
The 2027 Freeride E highlights KTM’s push into electric mobility without compromising on performance. With better power delivery, practical battery solutions, and improved usability, it signals a strong future for electric off-road motorcycles globally.
