“Let Me Take My Chance”: Suryakumar Yadav on Batting at No. 3, Sweeping CSK Away Alongside Rohit Sharma

Back at his preferred No. 3 slot, Suryakumar Yadav showcased his signature flair against CSK, sharing an explosive century stand with “legend” Rohit Sharma to seal MI’s commanding nine-wicket win at Wankhede.

📍 Mumbai | April 21, 2025

Suryakumar Yadav, the dynamic middle-order maestro of Mumbai Indians, returned to his comfort zone at No. 3 and made an instant impact, smashing an unbeaten 68 off 30 balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a dominating nine-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium.

His match-winning partnership of 114 runs with Rohit Sharma (76)* not only ensured MI’s third consecutive win but also reasserted their position as serious playoff contenders in IPL 2025.

💬 “Felt It’s My Day, Let Me Take My Chance”

Reflecting on his promotion in the batting order, Suryakumar shared:

“As soon as the coach said you are going at number 3 after the powerplay, I was really looking forward to it. I felt it was my day and just went out there to express myself.”

Known for his proactive mindset, Suryakumar also revealed that he initiated the call to move up the order:

“They were playing a lot of spinners… I told the team management that it’s high time I go up the order. Even if it doesn’t work, no problem — but let me take my chance.”

🤝 Chemistry with Rohit Sharma: “It Gets Easier When I Bat With Him”

Batting alongside his long-time teammate Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar looked at ease from the first ball. The duo’s natural understanding and aggressive approach made CSK’s total of 176 look well below par.

“He (Rohit) has been a legend of this game. When I went out, there was a bit of grip on the wicket, but he told me to just enjoy my shots,” said Suryakumar.

🔁 Sweep Masterclass: “I Grew Up Playing on Maidaans”

With CSK deploying a heavy spin attack, Suryakumar responded with a masterclass in sweep shots — conventional, reverse, and paddle — dismantling Ravindra Jadeja and Noor Ahmad with ease.

“Growing up playing local cricket on red soil in Mumbai, you learn to sweep instinctively. At Wankhede, you just know what to do,” he said.

When asked about the plan against Jadeja, he was quick to admit:

“You can’t let him come out on top. He’s got too much experience, so I had to be ahead of him. That’s what we practised yesterday — and happy it worked out.”
