Loud Explosion Reported in Lahore Day After India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ Strikes
Lahore | May 8, 2025 —
A loud explosion was heard in Lahore on Thursday morning, according to Pakistan’s Geo TV and a Reuters witness on the ground. The cause of the blast remains unconfirmed, with no official statement issued yet by Pakistani authorities.
The explosion comes just a day after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, a pre-dawn military operation that targeted nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The air and missile strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that killed 26 civilians—mostly Hindus.

While Pakistan has vowed retaliation, the sudden blast in one of its largest cities has sparked speculation and anxiety among locals. Authorities have yet to clarify whether the explosion was the result of an internal mishap, an accidental detonation, or something more sinister amid the heightened regional conflict.

The timing of the explosion—within 36 hours of the Indian operation—has led to concerns about escalation and the security of urban centres in Pakistan. No casualties have been reported so far, and the area has been cordoned off.
Earlier, Indian forces struck key camps linked to terror outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, with Indian officials calling the operation “measured, non-escalatory, and focused on counterterrorism.”
