Stavanger, Norway | June 7, 2025: Five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen secured his seventh Norway Chess title after D Gukesh suffered a heartbreaking blunder in the final round against Fabiano Caruana. The American grandmaster’s win earned him three crucial points, propelling Carlsen to the top with 16 points.

Carlsen, who drew his final game against Arjun Erigaisi, benefited from Gukesh’s miscalculation under time pressure. With just two seconds left on the clock, Gukesh realized the blunder, offered a handshake, and was seen covering his face in visible disappointment.

In a dramatic conclusion to the women’s category, Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine emerged victorious with 16.5 points, even after losing the Armageddon tie-break to India’s R Vaishali. The classical game between the two ended in a draw.
Had Vaishali won the classical game, the title could have swung in favour of Koneru Humpy, who needed a full classical win against Ju Wenjun. However, Humpy too settled for a draw and collected 1.5 points after winning in the Armageddon.
