The royal family member and HRH Group chairman succumbed to a prolonged illness; Udaipur City Palace closed as a mark of respect.
March 16, 2025: Udaipur, Rajasthan –Arvind Singh Mewar (81), a direct descendant of Maharana Pratap and a prominent figure in Rajasthan’s erstwhile royal family, passed away early Sunday at his residence in the Udaipur City Palace after a prolonged illness, family sources confirmed.

Funeral & Mourning in Udaipur
As a mark of respect, the Udaipur City Palace has been closed to tourists on Sunday and Monday. His funeral is scheduled for Monday. Mewar is survived by his wife Vijayraj Kumari, son Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, and daughters Bhargavi Kumari Mewar and Padmaja Kumari Parmar.
Legacy in Hospitality, Sports & Aviation
Arvind Singh Mewar was the younger son of Bhagwant Singh Mewar and Sushila Kumari. After completing his education at Mayo College, Ajmer, he pursued hotel management in the UK and the US, later building the HRH Group of Hotels into a renowned corporate brand.

The Mewar Succession & Property Disputes
Since the passing of Bhagwant Singh Mewar in 1984, the House of Mewar has been embroiled in succession and property disputes.

📌 Arvind Singh Mewar was named his father’s successor, while his elder brother, Mahendra Singh Mewar, was disinherited due to legal conflicts.
📌 Despite this, Mahendra Singh Mewar was coronated as the titular head of the family.
📌 After Mahendra’s death in November 2023, his son, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar (a BJP MLA), was named the new titular head.
The family dispute escalated when Vishvaraj Singh was denied entry to City Palace for performing rituals but was later granted access after a resolution.

As the Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, Arvind Singh Mewar played a key role in preserving the legacy of the Mewar dynasty. His passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a rich cultural and historical legacy that will be remembered for generations.
