Majid Haq Accuses Cricket Scotland Of Hiding Behind Jurisdiction Amid Racism Allegations
March 15, 2025: Cricket Scotland is once again at the center of controversy following accusations from former cricketer Majid Haq, who claims the board has been evasive and selective in addressing racial discrimination allegations. Haq, who has long spoken out about his experiences with racism, has alleged that Cricket Scotland has consistently tried to conceal crucial reports and suppress the truth about the discriminatory behavior he faced.
The controversy dates back to 2015, when Haq was dropped from the Scottish national team despite being the highest wicket-taker for his side at the ODI World Cup that year. Haq has since linked his exclusion to racial discrimination, highlighting a tweet he posted after being excluded that read, “Always tougher when in a minority #race #colour.”
Haq’s accusations are backed by an investigative report that details his experience of racism within Cricket Scotland. His lawyer, Aamer Anwar, stated that the report confirms Haq’s claims of discrimination and victimization for speaking out. Haq himself has expressed frustration with Cricket Scotland’s response to the allegations. “Cricket Scotland has hidden behind jurisdiction time and time again,” Haq said. “I think everything should be disclosed and let the public decide who is culpable in all this. It’s clear that a lot of information has been swept under the carpet.”
The cricketer has accused the board of attempting to hide the report’s findings from him and dismissing the gravity of his concerns. Haq believes the lack of transparency prevents the public from understanding the full extent of the situation.
In response, Cricket Scotland has expressed disappointment over how the report has been used, claiming that the findings are merely opinions rather than facts. They have stressed that the report is only one perspective in a broader process and that legal analysis was provided before the board decided on the appropriate course of action.
Despite the board’s denial, Haq remains steadfast in his belief that the truth must be made public and that the organization must be held accountable for its actions.
