Los Angeles, June 10: Mariah Carey turned the 2025 BET Awards into a sparkling celebration of music, fashion, and legacy as she made a show-stopping onstage appearance — skipping the red carpet, but certainly not the spotlight.
The 56-year-old pop legend debuted her new single “Type Dangerous,” the leading track from her highly anticipated 16th studio album, in a high-glam, disco-inspired performance. She followed it up with a crowd-pleasing rendition of her 2005 hit “It’s Like That,” blending past and future in a true diva moment.
Making a grand entrance, Carey lit up the stage in a shimmering metallic gold minidress paired with matching heels. She accented the look with dazzling hoop earrings and layered, glistening bracelets, creating a vision of ’90s-coded glamour with a modern twist. This marks Mariah’s first performance at the BET Awards since 2022, when she joined rapper Latto for a surprise appearance. This year, Carey received the prestigious BET Ultimate Icon Award, alongside fellow honorees Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin, and Snoop Dogg, further cementing her legendary status.
While she skipped the red carpet this year, Carey’s fashion game hasn’t missed a beat. She last walked a carpet in February 2024 at the Recording Academy Honors’ Black Music Collective event.
