Marvel Studios created a buzz at San Diego Comic-Con by announcing new projects and unveiling glimpses of upcoming films. One of the most anticipated revelations was the official title of the new ‘Fantastic Four’ movie: “The Fantastic 4: First Steps.”
According to Variety, a concept reel for the inaugural ‘Fantastic Four’ installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was showcased to Hall H attendees. Introduced by director Matt Shakman, the reel gave fans a preview of the Space Age aesthetic that will be featured in the superhero film.
“We’re doing a retro-future ’60s. Syd Mead was an inspiration. The ’60s, to me, is all about optimism,” Shakman explained to the audience, referencing the influential designer. “I love the Fantastic Four. I love their power set. We want to be true to the comics but we want to be true to life.”
The footage, which had the tone of a news reel, included scenes such as Mr. Fantastic addressing a bored classroom under a “Fantastic Science” banner, the superhero team’s flying Fantasticar, space suits, a rocket launch, and the Thing appearing as a mystery contestant on a dating show.
The event saw attendance from the cast, including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Joseph Quinn, among others. “The Fantastic 4: First Steps” is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
