“I heard it while sleeping. I ran out in my pyjamas as far as I could,” said Duangjai, a resident of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, speaking to AFP. The tremor was intense enough to cause water to spill from swimming pools atop high-rise buildings, with several buildings evacuated as a precaution.

Social media was flooded with videos showing pools sloshing and light fixtures swinging in condominiums, highlighting the quake’s far-reaching effect.

This rare seismic activity has left many residents shaken in a region not frequently known for such high-magnitude tremors.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely. As of now, there are no confirmed reports of structural damage or injuries in Myanmar or Thailand.
