Massive Fireball as Plane Crashes at London Southend Airport-Watch
London, July 13, 2025 — A huge fireball lit up the sky on Sunday afternoon after a small general aviation aircraft crashed at London Southend Airport, prompting an immediate and large-scale emergency response. The airport confirmed a “serious incident” and shut down operations as emergency teams rushed to the scene.
Witness John Johnson, who was at the airport with his family, described the terrifying moment:
“It took off, and about three or four seconds later, it started banking sharply to the left. Within seconds it inverted and crashed headfirst into the ground. There was a big fireball.”
Photos and videos shared on social media showed black smoke and flames billowing from the crash site. The aircraft involved was approximately 12 meters (39 feet) in length.
According to officials, the airport’s fire service responded within moments, deploying two fire engines. Local police, ambulance, and fire services soon joined the operation.
Essex Police confirmed they were alerted just before 4 p.m. local time and are now working with multiple agencies to manage the situation.
“We are working with all emergency services at the scene now, and that work will be ongoing for several hours,” said an Essex Police spokesperson.
As a safety measure, a nearby golf club and rugby club were evacuated due to their proximity to the crash site.
As of now, officials have not disclosed where the aircraft was heading or how many people were on board. There is no official word yet on casualties or survivors.
Local Member of Parliament David Burton-Sampson urged the public to stay away from the scene and allow emergency personnel to conduct their work.
“My thoughts are with everyone involved,” he stated.
According to the London Southend Airport website, four flights scheduled for Sunday afternoon were cancelled in the aftermath of the incident. Authorities have not yet confirmed when normal operations will resume.
Conclusion:
As investigations continue into the cause of this tragic crash, authorities are focusing on rescue and recovery efforts. The incident has cast a somber shadow over the airport, with the community and country anxiously awaiting updates on those involved.
