MCD Key Panel to Take Up Pending Plans Today

June 27, 2025: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD)long-idle Standing Committee is set to meet this Friday to clear a backlog of nearly 98 business proposals—some delayed for over two and a half years.

Key Agenda Highlights

₹1,144 cr LED lighting overhaul across six city zones—covering ~400,000 street and park lights.

Multilevel parking at Bharat Darshan Park, easing congestion in a popular civic spot .

Waste management infrastructure in Shahdara North & South, and hiring private security at four major hospitals.

Extension of contracts for 24 mechanical road sweepers over a two-year period.

Approval of 51 layout plans for new civic developments.

Public–private partnership (PPP) reintroduction for park maintenance, offering ₹15,000/acre to RWAs .

Elections Set in Motion

Nominations are now open until July 3 for new members in nine ad‑hoc and 12 special committees, with elections slated for July 10. The Standing Committee itself was recently constituted, filling all 18 seats—11 from BJP, 7 from AAP—with BJP’s Satya Sharma elected chairperson .

What It Means for Delhi Residents

The Standing Committee holds authority for projects costing over ₹5 crore—its absence led to a significant policy paralysis over vital urban initiatives. With its revival:

  • Major infrastructure and sanitation projects are expected to finally move forward.
  • Civic bodies can reinvest in greener, safer, and smarter urban amenities.
  • Elections to ad-hoc committees will bring renewed focus and transparency to local governance.

Final Word

This Friday’s Standing Committee meeting marks a pivotal turning point for Delhi’s civic administration. With long-stalled projects set for clearance, urban development and public services are poised to gain momentum.
