Meet Priyansh Arya: PBKS’ ₹3.8 Crore Discovery Who Smashed a 39-Ball Century Against CSK

From DPL heroics to IPL stardom — Priyansh Arya’s explosive hundred marks him as one of the brightest young stars of IPL 2025

April 8, 2025: Mullanpur:
In just his fourth IPL match, Punjab Kings’ ₹3.8 crore signing Priyansh Arya stunned the cricketing world with a breathtaking 39-ball century against Chennai Super Kings — the second-fastest by an Indian in IPL history.

The explosive left-handed opener smashed 103 runs off just 42 balls, including 9 sixes and 7 fours, as he single-handedly resurrected PBKS from a precarious 83/5. He hammered 22 runs off Matheesha Pathirana in the 13th over, bringing up his century with authority. Though Noor Ahmad dismissed him soon after, Arya received a standing ovation from the dugout and PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta.

Only Yusuf Pathan has scored a faster IPL ton by an Indian — 37 balls for Rajasthan Royals in 2010.

Who is Priyansh Arya?

A 24-year-old Delhi-based attacking opener, Arya earned his IPL call-up after dazzling performances in the domestic circuit. He was the leading run-scorer in the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL), amassing 608 runs in 10 innings for South Delhi Superstarz. Notably, he also hit six sixes in an over in one of the matches.

In the 2023–24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Arya continued his hot form, scoring 222 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 166.91, making him Delhi’s top performer.

Despite going unsold in the IPL 2024 auction, Arya didn’t lose hope. “I was disappointed,” he admitted. “But I stayed focused on the Syed Mushtaq Ali games. When PBKS picked me this year, I was thrilled — though I didn’t celebrate immediately. The real celebration is now, on the field.”

Arya’s meteoric rise — from club cricket to smashing records on the IPL stage — adds yet another inspiring chapter to the tournament’s legacy of unearthing raw, homegrown talent.
