Meghan Markle Shares Secret ‘Code’ Names She and Prince Harry Used to Hide Early Romance
Before the world caught wind of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship, the couple took careful measures to keep their budding romance hidden — including the use of secret “codes.”
Appearing on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, Meghan candidly shared details about the early days of their relationship.
“Probably at the beginning of us dating, when everything was in code,” Meghan recalled. “People didn’t know we were dating for… so long ago. It’ll be our seven-year wedding anniversary soon. I couldn’t tell anyone who I was dating, and who was keeping the secret, so we were just on a letter basis.”
The “letter basis” was simple but effective: “M” for Meghan and “H” for Harry. What began as a necessity eventually became second nature. “It stuck,” Meghan said with a laugh, revealing that the pair — along with their friends — still use the initials casually today, even during playdates with their children.
“I love nicknames,” Meghan added, embracing the tradition.
Reflecting on their relationship nearly seven years into marriage, Meghan expressed how their bond has only deepened over time.
“We’ve built a beautiful life and we have two healthy, beautiful children,” she said, referencing their son Prince Archie, 5, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 3.
Meghan compared Harry to a real-life hero, likening him to a character in a video game.
“I always think about it like the end of Super Mario Brothers — when you slay the dragon and save the princess. That’s my husband,” she said warmly. “He’s constantly protecting us and still makes time for date nights.”
Asked if she feels more in love today than ever, Meghan answered without hesitation: “Yeah.”
She explained that their relationship matured quickly under intense public scrutiny early on, and that now, with more stability, they are enjoying a renewed “honeymoon period.”
“You can just enjoy each other in a new way,” she said.
When asked if she believes they will be married forever, Meghan’s answer was firm: “Yes.”
“And he’s also a fox,” she joked. “If you haven’t noticed, my husband’s very, very handsome. But his heart is even more beautiful.”
