Meta has officially launched the next generation of its open-source AI models: Llama 4. In an Instagram video, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the rollout of Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick, alongside the upcoming Llama 4 Behemoth, signaling Meta’s most ambitious leap yet in the generative AI race.

“Our goal is to build the world’s leading AI, open source it, and make it universally accessible,” Zuckerberg said. “With Llama 4, we’re starting to see that happen.”

This release marks Meta’s first foray into mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture. Unlike traditional models, MoE activates only the relevant “expert” modules during a task—like physics, poetry, coding, or biology—allowing greater efficiency and scalability.
