China fires back with satirical AI-generated music videos criticizing Donald Trump’s trade policies as tensions flare in the ongoing tariff war.
April 6, 2025: China Uses AI Satire To Slam Trump’s Tariffs, Predicting Inflation and Economic Unrest
As trade tensions escalate between the United States and China, Beijing’s state-run media has taken an unconventional route—using AI-generated satire to mock President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.

In a sharp response to Trump’s recent tariff hike—dubbed “Liberation Day” by the US administration—China’s CGTN released a viral music video featuring dancing humanoid robots and bleak images of American consumers struggling under economic strain.
For many Americans, "Liberation Day," hailed by Trump's administration, means shrinking paychecks and rising costs. Tariffs hit, wallets quit: low-income families take the hardest blow. As the market holds its breath, the toll is already undeniable. #LiberationDay #CGTNOpinion pic.twitter.com/RzXFFVHoFg

Set to a haunting AI-generated track, the lyrics deliver a biting critique: “‘Liberation Day,’ you promised us the stars. But tariffs killed our cheap Chinese cars,” sings an artificial female voice, as the video shows an American woman staring hopelessly at an empty fork.
Another AI video, shared by China’s state-run Xinhua agency on X.com, features a robot character named “TARIFF” who self-destructs rather than follow orders to initiate a trade war, a metaphor for the self-sabotaging impact of harsh economic policies.
China’s media offensive follows its formal retaliation on Friday, which included fresh import duties and export restrictions. These come in response to what Chinese officials describe as reckless US tariffs that have triggered the worst global market drop since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Economists have warned that the tit-for-tat measures could raise prices for American consumers and tip the US economy into a downturn. Trump has downplayed the impact, calling it a “disturbance,” but the videos from Chinese media paint a grimmer picture.
In one CGTN scene, AI-generated lyrics play over images of smoldering factories and wrecked highways:
“You taxed each truck, you taxed each tire. Midwest burnin’ in your dumpster fire.”
While political tensions remain high, China’s new use of satire powered by artificial intelligence marks a notable shift in international propaganda—bringing entertainment, tech, and politics into a provocative new blend of messaging.
