"Might Take Him to Dinner!" – Rohit Sharma Praises Shubman Gill
Dubai [UAE], February 21: India kickstarted their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign in style, securing a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Dubai. Shubman Gill’s unbeaten century (101 off 129)* and Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul (5/53) were the standout performances in a dominant display.
Chasing 228, India got off to a strong start with Rohit Sharma (41 off 36) and Gill putting together 69 runs for the first wicket. Despite a mid-innings wobble, Gill anchored the chase and, alongside *KL Rahul (41 off 47)**, guided India home in 47.3 overs.
After the win, Rohit Sharma lauded Gill’s innings, even joking about taking him out for dinner.
“Gill, we know the class that he has. Should not surprise anyone. It was good to see him bat till the end. Might take him for dinner tomorrow (smiles),” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
Rohit also hailed Shami’s match-winning spell, which helped restrict Bangladesh to 228 all out despite a 154-run stand between Towhid Hridoy (100 off 117) and Jaker Ali (68 off 114).
“Very happy for him (Shami), long time waiting. We know what he brings to us. We need guys like him to stand up when we need,” the skipper added.
With this win, India moves to the top of Group A and will now gear up for their much-awaited clash against Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai.
