Iran taunts Washington after claiming downing of US jets amid escalating conflict

April 4, 2026: Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf on Friday mocked the United States following Tehran’s claims that it had shot down multiple American military aircraft. In a sharp post on X, he ridiculed the US-Israel campaign as a “no-strategy war,” sarcastically suggesting Washington had shifted from regime change ambitions to searching for missing pilots.

Earlier, Iran claimed it had downed US aircraft, including an F-15 and A-10, along with targeting Black Hawk helicopters. The United States confirmed the loss of an F-15E, adding weight to the escalating military confrontation. The developments come despite earlier Pentagon assertions that Iran’s air defences had been significantly weakened.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has maintained a hardline stance, reiterating that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons. While he has said regime change was not the official objective, his remarks indicate shifting narratives as the conflict intensifies. With both sides trading claims and rhetoric, the situation continues to grow more volatile, raising concerns over further escalation in the region.
