Jason Cummings’ penalty and Jamie MacLaren’s 96th-minute winner seal the double for Mohun Bagan in front of a raucous Salt Lake Stadium

Kolkata, April 12:
In a dramatic Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 final at the Salt Lake Stadium, Mohun Bagan Super Giant came from behind to edge past Bengaluru FC 2-1 in extra time and lift the ISL title, completing a memorable domestic double after also clinching the ISL Shield earlier in the season.

A Final of Twists and Turns

The match began in tense fashion, with Bengaluru FC taking the lead in the first half, courtesy of an unfortunate own goal by Mohun Bagan’s Alberto Rodriguez. Bengaluru looked sharp and dangerous, led by their evergreen captain Sunil Chhetri, who narrowly missed a stunning free-kick late in extra time.

But Mohun Bagan showed grit. Jason Cummings stepped up in the second half to convert a crucial penalty after a Bengaluru handball inside the box, levelling the score at 1-1.

Jamie MacLaren’s Moment of Glory

With the game tied after 90 minutes, extra time beckoned. And in the 96th minute, Jamie MacLaren latched on to a precise cutback, evading his marker and slotting it past a diving Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, sparking wild celebrations in the stands.

Despite Bengaluru FC’s desperate attempts in the final minutes, including a late surge and a long-range free-kick, the Mohun Bagan defense held strong to seal a famous win.

The Double and Glory

With this victory, Mohun Bagan not only win the ISL 2024-25 crown but also complete a historic double, having topped the league stage to bag the ISL Shield. Their triumph marks a season of dominance, resilience, and tactical brilliance.

Chhetri Bows Out in Style

While Sunil Chhetri, at 40, couldn’t guide his team to the title, he ends the season with 14 goals and a playoff run that earned immense respect from fans and pundits alike.

Final Score:
Mohun Bagan 2–1 Bengaluru FC (After Extra Time)
Goals: Alberto Rodriguez (OG, BFC), Jason Cummings (MBSG – Pen), Jamie MacLaren (MBSG)
