Morne Morkel Excited for Mohammed Shami’s Return to India's T20I Squad
Pune, February 1 – India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has expressed his delight at having Mohammed Shami back in the squad, hinting at a possible return for the veteran pacer in the upcoming T20I match.
Shami, who last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, made his T20I comeback in the third match against England. While he went wicketless, he showcased his impeccable seam position, conceding 25 runs in three overs at an economy of 8.33.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Morkel praised Shami’s performance and hinted at his inclusion in the next game.
“Shami’s been bowling really well, and I’ve been catching to him at warm-ups… so very happy he’s coming along. He’s probably going to get an opportunity in the next game, we’ll see how things go, but excited to have him back in the group,” Morkel stated.
Beyond his contributions on the field, Shami’s presence is proving invaluable in mentoring India’s young bowlers.
“Just for him to share his experience and knowledge at training is a massive boost for this young bowling unit and for Indian cricket. So yeah, great to have Shami back in the mix,” he added.
With the series evenly poised, Shami’s inclusion could strengthen India’s pace attack as they fine-tune their bowling unit. His wealth of experience, skillset, and leadership will not only benefit India’s strategy in the upcoming matches but also guide the younger bowlers in the squad.
As India gears up for the next match, all eyes will be on whether Shami makes his much-anticipated return to the playing XI.
