Tibet, January 16: A series of earthquakes shook Tibet on Thursday, with the latest being a 4.7 magnitude quake, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km, at latitude 28.53° N and longitude 87.53° E.
“EQ of M: 4.7, On: 16/01/2025 08:50:02 IST, Lat: 28.53 N, Long: 87.53 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Xizang,” the NCS stated.

The NCS also reported a 4.2 magnitude earthquake at 2:20 am IST, and another 4.3 magnitude quake on Wednesday evening.
The region has been grappling with frequent tremors following a massive 7.1 magnitude earthquake on January 7, which resulted in the death of at least 126 people and injuries to over 300 others. More than 1,000 houses were damaged in Tingri County, the epicenter of the quake, forcing the evacuation of over 30,000 residents, according to state news agency Xinhua.
Thursday’s tremors are part of the aftershocks following the catastrophic January 7 quake, which has left significant devastation in its wake. Residents continue to endure recurring tremors, adding to the challenges of rebuilding efforts.
