Mumbai Weather Warning: IMD Predicts Severe Rains, Red Alert Issued
June 16, 2025: Mumbai was drenched in a heavy downpour during the early hours of Monday, causing waterlogging in several parts of the city. Between 2 am and 5 am, South Mumbai and the Western suburbs experienced significant rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for the day.
Fort recorded the highest rainfall with 74 mm, followed by Bandra (62 mm), Malabar Hill (60 mm), and Lower Parel (58 mm). Other affected areas include Haji Ali (57 mm), Matunga (56 mm), Grant Road and Santacruz (47 mm each), and Dadar (41 mm). Even typically drier zones such as Andheri (33 mm), Mumbai Central (30 mm), and Borivali (28 mm) saw consistent showers. Worli (26 mm), BKC (25 mm), Versova (23 mm), and Dindoshi (22 mm) also received rainfall. Meanwhile, Thane remained mostly dry but is expected to see rain soon.
The IMD’s seven-day forecast predicts heavy rain to continue on June 16, especially over South Mumbai and parts of the Western suburbs, with localised flooding and traffic disruptions likely. June 17 will see similar weather conditions with heavy showers and cloudy skies. From June 18 onward, intermittent rain is expected with no major warnings, providing a slight break but no completely dry days ahead.
High Alert Areas:
Residents in these areas are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with local weather alerts. Authorities have placed disaster response teams on standby as the monsoon intensifies.
Mumbaikars should remain cautious, especially in low-lying neighborhoods prone to waterlogging, as the city braces for a wet week ahead.
