Jerusalem [Israel], December 13: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Jerusalem on Thursday to discuss key regional developments, with a focus on escalating events in Syria.
During the meeting, Netanyahu underscored Israel’s commitment to safeguarding its security amidst growing regional threats. He directed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to temporarily assume control of the buffer zone in Syria, ensuring stability until an effective force is established to enforce the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement. This agreement defines the dividing line between Israel and Syria following the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the urgent need to assist endangered minority groups in Syria and to counter terrorist activities emanating from Syrian territory. Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s resolve to act decisively to address these challenges.
