Nissanka’s Century, Chandimal’s Fifty Power Sri Lanka to First-Innings Lead
June 26, 2025: Pathum Nissanka struck his fourth Test century while Dinesh Chandimal registered his 34th half-century, steering Sri Lanka to a dominant 248/1 at stumps on Day 2 of the second Test against Bangladesh in Colombo. The hosts now lead by one run after 69 overs, with Nissanka unbeaten on a majestic 130 and Chandimal solid on 73.
The highlight of the day was the unbroken 160-run partnership between Nissanka and Chandimal for the second wicket.

This stand came after opener Lahiru Udara was dismissed for 40 by Taijul Islam in the second session — Bangladesh’s only success of the day.
Earlier, Sri Lanka made a strong start after bowling out Bangladesh for 247. Openers Nissanka and Udara put on an 88-run opening stand before Taijul Islam finally provided a breakthrough. He trapped Udara LBW for 40 with an arm ball, a decision that was initially not out but overturned on review.
At Tea, Sri Lanka were well-placed at 190/1, still trailing by 57 runs. Nissanka was on 93 and Chandimal on 54 at that stage, having added 102 runs together in a dominant session for the hosts.
The Sri Lankan batters looked in complete control throughout the day, especially in the morning session where Nissanka and Udara cruised to 83/0 by Lunch. Despite some tight bowling from Bangladesh after the break, the hosts accelerated with ease, showing solid technique and patience.
The Tigers’ spinners struggled to find any consistency or threat after the lone breakthrough, as Nissanka and Chandimal capitalized on every scoring opportunity. With a full day ahead and plenty of batting to come, Sri Lanka are now eyeing a substantial first-innings lead.
