NYC Subway Flood Sparks Travel Chaos After Torrential Rain Hits City
July 15, 2025: Heavy rains battered the Tri-State Area on Monday, triggering flash flood warnings and plunging New York City’s subway system into chaos. The NYC subway flood crippled service on several major lines including the 1, 2, 3, E, F, M, and R trains, according to the MTA. The 1 line was suspended through much of Manhattan due to flooding near 96th Street, while service on the 2 and 3 lines halted after multiple Manhattan stations became waterlogged. Trains eventually resumed, but with heavy delays that left commuters stranded for hours.

Shocking video from Chelsea’s 28th Street station showed water gushing from a drain and submerging the platform. At 34th Street–Penn Station, one of the city’s busiest hubs, passengers tiptoed around pooled water.
“When it rains here in New York, it sucks,” said one exasperated rider. “Look at this. God forbid someone slips.” Another commuter echoed the frustration: “These are not the conditions New Yorkers deserve.”
Meanwhile, flooding at Queens Plaza created signal issues that delayed E, F, M, and R line trains in both directions.
It wasn’t just the subways. Metro-North Railroad service to and from Grand Central Terminal was also disrupted. The Harlem, New Haven, and Hudson lines faced delays due to regional flooding.
By 10 p.m., train services had resumed with residual delays, but authorities continued to urge commuters to avoid travel between Manhattan and the Bronx until full service was restored.
