Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India]: Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar welcomed set of new guests on Saturday from Mizoram’s Aizwal Zoo, according to the Central Zoo Authority of India (CZA).
“The animals brought to Nandankanan Zoo from Aizawl Zoo included – one pair of Hoolock Gibbon (a 4-year-old-male and a 13-year-old-female), one pair of Pig Tailed Macaque (7-year-old male and female) and one Himalayan Black Bear (11-year-old-female),” said authorities at Nandankanan Zoo.
They further informed that a team led by Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Dr Sudipta Kumar Panda, assisted by veterinary doctor Bikram T, Forest Guard Sri Pratap Kumar Khuntia, animal keeper Sri Pratap Rout, and two outsourced persons – Sri Prakash Mandal and Gangadhar Hansdah went to Aizawl Zoological Park to receive the animals.
Pig-tailed macaque is a new species added to the Nandankanan Zoo, said authorities at Nandankanan Zoo.
Authorities further informed that through this exchange, the total number of species in the zoo has increased to 163.
As per the CZA guidelines, all the acquired animals will reportedly be in quarantine for around one month before being on exhibition for visitors, said authorities.
As per the information from Zoo authorities, one pair of tigers were sent to Aizawl Zoo from Nandankanan Zoo earlier in March.
