"Only Trump Can End This War"—Trump Calls for Ceasefire in Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Washington DC [US], February 22: Former US President Donald Trump has called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, urging Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate an end to the war.
“President Putin and President Zelenskyy have to get together because we want to stop the war and stop killing millions of people,” Trump stated.
He emphasized that while the war impacts Europe directly, the US should not bear the financial burden at its current level.
“I want to see a ceasefire, and I want to get the deal done. It doesn’t affect the US very much since it is on the other side of the ocean; it does affect Europe,” he added.
Trump criticized President Joe Biden for spending $300 billion on Ukraine’s war efforts, compared to Europe’s $100 billion, calling the financial commitment one-sided and unjustified.
“We have put in much more money. We are in for $300 billion, and they (Europe) are in for $100 billion. Biden just gave them money—no loan, no security. We have to sign a deal to get security,” Trump argued.
He further accused Zelenskyy of persuading the US into spending billions on a war that “couldn’t be won”, questioning the allocation of resources and Europe’s lack of equal financial contribution.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“Think of it—a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States into spending $350 billion dollars on a war that couldn’t be won, that never had to start. Without the US and ‘TRUMP,’ he will never be able to settle it.”
Trump also accused Zelenskyy of mismanaging funds, claiming that half of the US aid is “missing” and questioning his legitimacy as a leader.
“Zelenskyy refuses to have elections, is very low in Ukrainian polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden ‘like a fiddle.’ A dictator without elections—Zelenskyy better move fast, or he is not going to have a country left.”
Trump asserted that his administration alone could have successfully negotiated peace with Russia, blaming Biden and Europe for failing to bring an end to the conflict.
“In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia—something all admit only ‘TRUMP’ and the Trump Administration can do,” he said.
While expressing support for Ukraine, Trump blamed Zelenskyy’s leadership for the devastation, stating that millions of lives have been lost unnecessarily.
“I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job. His country is shattered, and millions have unnecessarily died. And so it continues.”
As Trump positions himself for a 2024 election comeback, his remarks signal a dramatic shift in US foreign policy should he return to office.
