Operation Sindoor: All-Party Meet Ends With Consensus, Kiren Rijiju Says ‘All Parties Showed Maturity’

Leaders across party lines briefed on India’s precision strikes against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK; national unity prevails as political spectrum backs military action post-Pahalgam terror attack.

New Delhi | May 8, 2025:
A day after India’s armed forces conducted precision missile strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor, the Centre held an all-party meeting in New Delhi to brief political leaders across the spectrum.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated post-meeting that “all parties showed maturity” during the briefing, adding that leaders put forth suggestions and emphasized remaining vigilant in the current tense climate.

Key Developments:

  • Union ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, S. Jaishankar, J.P. Nadda and Nirmala Sitharaman attended the meeting alongside Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sandip Bandyopadhyay, TR Baalu, and other senior Opposition leaders.
  • Delhi CM Rekha Gupta lauded the operation, saying Pakistan was “given a befitting reply” and warned of more decisive action if terror persists.
  • RJD MP Manoj Jha termed the action “necessary” and stressed that political unity is essential in national security matters.
  • Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut praised the Indian Army’s professionalism, highlighting that the military targeted only terror hubs, not civilians or military assets.
  • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that 13 civilians were killed and 59 injured in Pakistani shelling post-Operation Sindoor, primarily in the Poonch sector.
  • Meanwhile, UNGA President Philemon Yang urged both India and Pakistan to exercise “maximum restraint” and pursue diplomatic channels.
  • The Canadian government issued a travel advisory against visiting Jammu & Kashmir and areas within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border.
  • In Uri, mock drills and fire safety protocols were initiated, while fire trucks were deployed in response to Pakistani ceasefire violations.

Operation Sindoor, conducted in the early hours of May 7, was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. India’s strikes targeted nine terror sites linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh provided a detailed briefing during the all-party meeting.
