Opposition Criticizes PM Modi’s Constitution Day Speech, Questions Fulfilling Past Promises

“TMC, SP, and Congress leaders call PM Modi’s speech a mix of ‘hollow promises’ and ‘repetition,’ urging action on unfulfilled commitments.”

New Delhi, December 15: Opposition leaders voiced strong criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Constitution Day speech in the Lok Sabha, describing it as lacking substance and revisiting old promises without addressing their fulfillment.

TMC, SP, and Congress Leaders Respond

TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay dismissed the Prime Minister’s address, claiming it lacked meaningful content. “There was nothing to bite in this speech. PM Modi had to acknowledge that Congress was the main strength in India’s freedom struggle. Every Indian recognizes their role, so the angle PM took today is not up to the mark,” Bandyopadhyay said.

Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav focused on the government’s record of fulfilling past promises. “The Prime Minister has been making promises since 2014. Until old commitments are fulfilled, new pledges hold no value,” he said.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the address as “absolutely boring,” saying, “PM Modi did not say anything new or constructive. He made 11 hollow promises but avoided critical issues like corruption and the Adani controversy.”

Akhilesh Yadav: “11 Jumlas”

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav labeled the speech as a reiteration of “11 jumlas” and accused the BJP of hypocrisy on dynastic politics. “Those who criticize dynastic politics have a party full of dynasties. The truth is that reservation for SC/ST, OBC, and Dalits is being eroded. A caste census is necessary for people to receive their rights according to their population,” Yadav said.

PM Modi’s Constitution Day Speech

In his speech, PM Modi launched a scathing attack on Congress, accusing the party of consistently disrespecting the Constitution. He highlighted BJP-led amendments aimed at correcting past mistakes and presented eleven pledges for India’s future, including calls for inclusive development, zero tolerance for corruption, and an end to dynastic politics (parivarvad).

Responding to the two-day discussion on the Constitution’s 75th anniversary, the Prime Minister criticized the Nehru-Gandhi family for its alleged disregard for constitutional values across generations. He described his government’s reforms as efforts to honor the spirit of the Constitution and build a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.
