AIMIM chief mocks Himanta Biswa Sarma over ‘Miya Muslims’ remark, raises China row

February 7, 2026: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his remarks on “Miya Muslims,” mocking him during a public rally in Nizamabad. Owaisi sarcastically offered Sarma “two rupees,” accusing him of promoting discrimination and ridiculing members of the Muslim community. He said the Constitution guarantees equality to all citizens, irrespective of their position or identity.

Referring to Sarma’s comments allegedly suggesting differential treatment for “Miya Muslims,” Owaisi said such statements violated constitutional values and fostered division. He questioned attempts to single out Bengali-speaking Muslims in Assam and criticised the narrative around illegal immigration, asserting that no chief minister has the right to discriminate against any community.

At the same rally, Owaisi also targeted the BJP-led central government over the controversy surrounding former Army Chief General M M Naravane’s unpublished memoir on the 2020 China standoff in eastern Ladakh. He accused the BJP and RSS of lacking courage to respond firmly to Chinese incursions, intensifying the political clash between the ruling party and the opposition over national security and parliamentary conduct.
