Pahalgam Terror Attack: Nepali Protesters Burn Pakistani Army Chief’s Photo Near Embassy in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, Nepal – On Saturday, April 26, a group of Nepali protesters gathered outside the newly relocated Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu to express their outrage over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 27-year-old Nepali tourist Sudeep Neupane.
The protesters, led by the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and other civic groups, accused Pakistan of harboring terrorists and targeting Hindus. They burned a photo of Pakistan’s Army Chief and tore the Pakistani flag, chanting slogans such as “Down with Pakistan,” “Pakistan Embassy leave Nepal,” and “Save Hindu minorities.”
Nepali police had barricaded the area leading to the embassy, preventing the protesters from approaching. Despite this, the demonstrators remained vocal in their demands for justice for the Nepali victim and accountability for those responsible for the attack.
The protest comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack. India has taken several diplomatic measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Integrated Check Post at Attari, and reducing the number of diplomatic staff in both countries.
In response to the attack, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to punish those responsible and eliminate the remaining strongholds of terrorism. The international community has expressed concern over the escalating violence and the potential for further destabilization in the region.
