Amid mounting cross-border escalation and heavy Pakistani losses, top military officials from both sides held last-minute talks leading to ceasefire.
May 10, 2025– New Delhi: India, Pakistan Held DGMO-Level Talks Just Hours Before Ceasefire Agreement
A top Pakistani military officer reached out to India just before the official announcement of the ceasefire on Saturday, the Indian government confirmed during a special briefing. The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations subsequently spoke at 3:35 PM IST and agreed to halt all hostilities across land, air, and sea starting 5:00 PM.

The backchannel military communication came in the wake of relentless Pakistani drone and missile attacks on Indian military installations and civilian areas across the northern region over three consecutive nights. Most of these hostile intrusions were effectively intercepted by India’s air defence grid.

India, in a stern message earlier in the day, warned that any future act of terrorism from across the border would be deemed an “act of war” and met with decisive military retaliation.
“Over the past few days, Pakistan suffered heavy and unsustainable losses following its unprovoked attacks on Indian installations,” Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stated during the press briefing. She confirmed severe damage to key Pakistani air bases at Skardu, Sargodha, Jacobabad, and Bholari, along with the destruction of several air defence systems and radars.
“These losses made the defence of Pakistani airspace unsustainable,” she added. “Extensive and precise damage was also inflicted on military infrastructure, command centres, and logistics depots across the Line of Control.”
The conflict had escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians—25 Indian nationals and one Nepali tourist—were killed by Pakistan-linked militants. India responded with precision missile strikes targeting terror camps operated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
As Pakistan retaliated by targeting Indian civilian zones with combat drones and loitering munitions, India answered with a calibrated counter-offensive on radar posts, command hubs, and ammunition stockpiles in Rafiqui, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Sialkot.
