Pakistan Attacks Again: Drones Intercepted in Jammu, Samba, Pathankot; Explosions Reported in Pokhran Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

Blackout in Jammu, sirens across cities as Operation Sindoor triggers fresh cross-border hostilities and drone incursions.

New Delhi, May 9, 2025 – Heightened military activity was reported across parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab on Friday evening, as multiple Pakistani drones were intercepted by Indian forces in Jammu, Samba, Pathankot, and Ferozepur, Army sources confirmed. The intrusions occurred amid continued shelling from across the border, following India’s pre-emptive strikes under Operation Sindoor earlier this week.

Explosions were also heard in Pokhran, Rajasthan, further escalating concerns of a broader military confrontation between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

As air raid sirens blared across Jammu city, a widespread blackout plunged the region into darkness. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed the situation on social media platform X, stating, “Blackout in Jammu now. Sirens can be heard across the city.”

He urged residents to exercise caution and remain indoors.

“It’s my earnest appeal to everyone in & around Jammu: please stay off the streets, stay at home or at the nearest place you can comfortably stay at for the next few hours. Ignore rumours, don’t spread unsubstantiated or unverified stories & we will get through this together,” he posted.

The fresh wave of drone activity comes just days after India’s armed forces struck nine terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Pakistan has since launched retaliatory actions, including missile and drone attacks along India’s western border.

The situation remains tense as India’s security forces remain on high alert, intercepting aerial threats and fortifying key border areas.
