Pakistan Condemns U.S. Strike on Iran, a Day After Backing Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

Islamabad calls U.S. strikes a “violation of international law,” expressing grave concern over West Asia tensions—just 24 hours after nominating Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

June 22, 2025: In a striking diplomatic contradiction, Pakistan on Sunday condemned the United States’ military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, labeling the attacks a violation of international law—just a day after formally endorsing U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

In an official statement posted on X, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced “grave concern” over the rising tensions in West Asia, following what it called “ongoing aggression against Iran.” Islamabad warned that any further escalation would have “severely damaging implications for the region and beyond.”

“The unprecedented escalation of tension and violence is deeply disturbing,” the statement read. “All parties must adhere to international law, particularly International Humanitarian Law.”

Pakistan further emphasized the need for restraint, calling for a return to dialogue and diplomacy, in line with UN Charter principles. It also defended Iran’s right to self-defense, framing the situation as a breach of sovereign rights under international law.

🇵🇰 Pakistan’s Nobel Endorsement for Trump

The condemnation came barely 24 hours after Pakistan made headlines for a surprising endorsement of President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“The Government of Pakistan has decided to formally recommend President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize,” Islamabad posted on X, citing his “decisive diplomatic intervention during the recent India-Pakistan crisis.”

Trump, reacting to his nomination on Truth Social, said,

“I should have gotten it four or five times. They won’t give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals.”

⚠️ Escalating Crisis: U.S.-Iran-Israel Triangle

Pakistan’s reaction follows the U.S. bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan — after Israel struck multiple military installations inside Iran. These included fighter jets, missile launchers, and air defense systems.

Trump had announced the U.S. strikes, calling them a “very successful attack”, and warned Tehran of “far greater” consequences if hostilities continued.

While Israel welcomed the action, global leaders including the UN Secretary-General expressed deep concern. Pakistan now joins China, Venezuela, Mexico, and Cuba in condemning the U.S. military escalation.
